Empower yourself to quit drinking and live your true potential

Perhaps you are beginning to have more awareness of your drinking and questioning what else is out there? Congratulations! You are heading in a new and exciting direction!

Welcome to Humble Mountain Coaching!

I understand that life’s challenges are unique and complex to all individuals. I am a certified Naked Mind Coach serving clients throughout the world, I’m here to help inspire you to make the necessary changes to live a more authentic and meaningful life. I truly believe that one positive change leads to another and that a coach you connect with can make all of the difference.

Are you at a crossroads in your life? Perhaps feeling that you should be happier than you are and just don't know why?  Maybe you have made some changes that have worked for a bit but then things just went back to the way they were?

Oh and then there is the drinking thing right?

The one variable that you have never really taken completely out of the equation.

"What would happen if I just quit completely?"

I remember thinking that and knowing that it would fix a lot of problems but not being willing to take it out of my life completely. That thought made a million other excuses quickly surface...

"I'll do it when my kids get older"

"I've never hit rock bottom or had a DUI so maybe I'm okay"

"My wife doesn't think I have a problem"

"No one thinks I drink too much"

"I'll just drink on the weekends"

"I'll never have more than two drinks a night"

"I'll write all my drinks down and make sure I don't have more than 15 a week"

It all became so complicated and exhausting. I knew the answer but didn't know a single person that lived their life this way.

I also remember thinking...if I could just meet one person that I connect with to help me on my new alcohol free journey, that it would make all the difference. I didn't know a soul that didn't drink. Through some sort of cosmic fate, I was lucky enough to meet that person and it was everything that I hoped for and needed.

My goal is to be that person for someone else. I know how important it is.

I grew up in Illinois in a really nice family. I moved to Colorado for college and never went back home. I've been teaching elementary school for the past 18 years. I'm a music teacher. I've always loved music. I play guitar and enjoy playing with friends and in bands. I have an amazing wife (who is also a teacher), three awesome boys and a golden retriever. I have a great life. I'm 41.

I started to get the idea the last couple of years that I wanted to make my life even better. I began therapy, men's groups and some serious soul searching. I started to make small changes and those felt good. I started to think about bigger changes. I always wondered what would happen in the back of my mind if I quit drinking? It was the variable that I never messed with. I grew up in a family of drinkers and always had friends that were drinkers. I wore shirts with my favorite IPAs on them, played music at my favorite breweries and made trips to the Great American Beer Festival in the fall. I had a kegerator in my basement that was always pouring the most tasty and trendy craft beers. But something just didn't feel right.

I just knew the drinking was holding me back. I decided to quit for a year and see what happened. It was tough at times but it became apparent that my life was transforming in front of my eyes. I quit drinking on October 31, 2018 and there is no looking back. Life is too good now. My only regret is that I wish I would have had the courage to give it up sooner.

I distinctly remember thinking...if I could find just one person like me that I connect with, it could make all the difference. I was lucky enough to find that person and now hope that I can be that person to others. Do I sound like someone that you could connect with to help you on your transformation? It is really important that you find the right person.

If you think I could be it and I feel the same, it could make all the difference.

The Process

We all have different experiences that lead us to drinking, and during the initial phase of the program, we'll work together to undercover some of the reasons that drive your consumption. Once identified, we'll work together to develop strategies to resolve these problems.

While our paths to this point may be different, the physiological factors that keep us locked in this loop are similar. During this phase, we'll discuss how alcohol effects your body and brain. Having an understanding of how alcohol affects you will give you the tools you need to plan.

Now that you have a better understanding of your motivators and the mental process of dependency, you can make an effective plan. I work with you to develop a plan that you can follow during the first days and weeks of your sobriety. We will plan activities and routines that will keep you on track.

Here you take the leap - and I'm right there with you. Once the plan is in place, it's time to act. I work closely with you during the first days and weeks of your sobriety, helping you stick to you plan and make adjustments as necessary. Patience is key during this phase, and I help you stay motivated and focused on your goals.

This is a common time for people to lapse - after the first few weeks or months, not drinking becomes easier, and it can be very tempting to have “just one.”  I work with you during this phase to identify these thought patterns and develop ways to counter them.

It's time to look to the future and plan to keep yourself sober. During this phase, we review your progress, discuss what you've learned, and transform the short-term plan into a long-term roadmap that you can use to live your sober life.

I had the honor to support Brian through a significant transition in his life. I could feel, from the start, his desire to show up and be real. He has the willingness to be curious and ask the tough questions, and the bravery to be honest with himself about the truths he uncovers. Choosing a path of innerwork and self reflection isn't easy, but the reward is great, and Brian understands this. If you're ready to transform your life, I highly recommend him as your coach and guide.

"I walk onstage thinking, “I wonder if somebody’s out there trying to be sober tonight.” And I would never say anything, but it makes me feel good to think somebody’s out there in the same boat I’m in."                        -Trey Anastasio
